Spring is in the air! Hurrah! London certainly comes alive during springtime, as we all come out of our shells and head back to the parks, beer gardens and outdoor events.
And of course, being London, there are so many things to do to make the most of the season.
So, maybe you’re new to London. Maybe you’re a visitor. Or, perhaps you’re an old hand wondering what you should do in the city to make the most of the lovely weather.
Well, we’ve put together this list of things to do in London during the spring. Aren’t we good to you 🙂
1. Columbia road flower market
This East End market is great all year round, but it’s perfect for picking a bunch of spring flowers or a new plant for home. And of course there are some great pubs and cafes scattered around, so you can just sit and soak up the spring vibes over a cuppa if you prefer.
2. Wander the Royal Parks
Hyde Park, Green Park, Regents Park and St James’s Park are always wonderful oases of calm and greenery amongst the bustle of London. And, of course, during the spring they’re even more lovely. Sit by the Serpentine in Hyde Park, wander around Regent Park’s multiple rose gardens or take a jog around St James’s Park. If the parks don’t quite get you excited, check out our London nature walks guide.
3. A drink by the river
As the chill drops slightly, now is a great time to take in the London views with a beer on South Bank, or over by Tower Bridge. There are obviously plenty of great pubs and beer gardens to check out, but we did a guide in our guide to South Bank beer gardens before.
4. Climb Primrose Hill
This small hill offers some great views across our fabulous city. Wander up from Regent’s Park, or stroll across from Chalk Farm. Bring a picnic or some snacks at least for the best experience.
5. Join a running club
Haven’t managed to burn off your winter layer yet? There are tons of running clubs in London. We like Parkrun, but spring is the perfect time to find a club near you!
6. Go to a football match
If the idea of standing in a stadium in the freezing cold surrounded by blokes shouting doesn’t appeal, then, yeah we get you. But spring in London means it’s the business end of the football season, and a great time to get a few football matches down. Especially if you’re an armchair fan. And that matchday experience is a true must do in London – even if you’re not really a football fan.
7. Head to Kew Gardens
What list of the best things to do in London at spring is complete without Kew Gardens? Yes, sorry to be predictable, but this really is a must do. At least once in your lifetime, as a London, you must make the pilgimage to Kew Gardens. Talking of which…
8. The Chelsea Flower Show
You don’t have to be a gardener to enjoy the Chelsea Flower Show! It’s another one of those quintessentially London experiences, and as spring as it gets.
9. Take a walking tour
As a tourist, this is a no-brainer. But don’t rule this out as a resident too. There are so many exciting walking tours to do in London, and spring is the perfect time. It’s not too busy with tourists yet and you might even learn something new about our fabulous metropolis. Take your pick from street art tours to Jack the Ripper or music tours…. 10. People watching in… Anywhere….
One of the best things to do in London at spring, or any time of year, is people watching. Find your favourite corner of the city, grab a bevvy and watch the world go by. Our favourite spots are usually Brick Lane, the South Bank, Soho and Hyde Park.
11. Outdoor food markets
From Pop Brixton to Vinegar Yard, to Brick Lane and beyond – we sure are spoiled for choice for food markets in London. Spring is a great time to check them out as the weather is warmer and we’re still not seeing the tourist influx yet.
12. Meet your mates again
The winter in London is lovely and all. After all, pubs exist. But meeting up with your mates for gigs, trips to markets and parks and all that shenanigans is different once the blooms are out.
So these are our shouts for the best things to do in London during the spring. Have we missed anything? Let us know in the comments!
