A new partnership between the London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI) and techUK will boost boroughs’ links to industry and access to exciting new opportunities to support local services, it has been announced.

LOTI and techUK will work together to foster positive relationships between London local government and the technology sector for the benefit of London’s communities.

The partnership will focus on the priority issues of digital inclusion, social care, and using data and tech to develop ‘smart city’ environments. LOTI and techUK will jointly explore initiatives such as facilitating early market engagement between boroughs and suppliers to support procurement goals, as well as networking opportunities and encouraging the exchange of ideas and good practice.

Established in 2019, LOTI is hosted by London Councils and supported by the Mayor of London. LOTI’s mission is to help the boroughs collaborate on projects that bring the best of technology, data and innovation to improve public services and outcomes for Londoners.

With over 900 members from a wide range of technology companies, techUK is uniquely well placed to work with LOTI in sharing insight and expertise and building connections between the boroughs and industry.

Eddie Copeland, Director of LOTI, said:

“We’re thrilled to be launching our partnership with techUK. “Making better use of data and technology is crucial to the future of public service provision in London. Boroughs are determined to be on the front foot, and closer links with industry are an integral part of achieving this.

“Through working jointly with techUK, we’ll boost boroughs’ opportunities to engage with industry and to secure important benefits for their communities.”

Georgina Maratheftis, Associate Director for Local Public Services at techUK, said:

“techUK is delighted to launch a partnership with LOTI to foster greater collaboration between London boroughs and industry.

“To innovate and solve some of the biggest challenges councils face, we need to collaborate across both the public sector and the supplier base. It is only by convening our two communities can we make a real impact to transform outcomes for people and places and help create an innovative marketplace.”

“I’m excited about what this partnership can bring. It’s an opportunity to showcase to local government what good and meaningful supplier market engagement looks like.”

Philip Glanville, Mayor of Hackney and London Councils’ Digital Champion, said:

“Boroughs are committed to using the latest technology to drive efficiency and effectiveness in our services and to deliver a positive impact for our residents.

“This new collaboration between LOTI and techUK will bring new opportunities for building strong partnerships between boroughs and industry and joint working on several of the key challenges facing the capital. We look forward to seeing the results.”
